Silica is one of the most common reinforcing fillers used in the rubber industry, second only to carbon black (CB) filler. In addition to the tire industry, silica reinforced rubbers are commonly used in shoe soles, conveyor belts, rolls, hoses and numerous other rubber products. In this study, silica filled EPDM compounds for washing machine door gasket applications are examined. Regardless of the application, the mixing of silica filled compounds is more complicated than CB filled compounds.
