Polyurethane (PU) foams have garnered widespread attention in the construction industry owing to their superior thermal insulation properties, structural versatility and ease of application. These foams are synthesized through the exothermic reaction of isocyanates (Part A) with polyols (Part B), forming a highly crosslinked cellular polymeric structure. Based on their cellular morphology and physical characteristics, PU foams are broadly categorized into open cell and closed cell systems. Open cell foams are lightweight and vapor permeable, offering excellent acoustic dampening and thermal insulation in interior applications. In contrast, closed cell foams are denser, exhibit low water absorption and provide higher thermal resistance (R-value), making them suitable for exterior walls, roofing systems and environments requiring moisture barriers and enhanced structural integrity.
